The single most upsetting issue is that f(x) and Shinee do not have any “golden” song. Let’s start with Shinee. Most people can only point out “Noona is so pretty” and the over-sung “Ring Ding Dong”.
F(x)’s situation is not any better. Since its debut 2 years ago, it does not have any top song. The reason why f(x) is not able to garner any achievement is because of songs that are difficult to understand or relate to. Its debut songs. “La Cha Ta” and “Chu” and its recent song (which was released 9 months ago) nu abo are hard to comprehend, and the messages of the songs are not well-delivered. Although one may finally appreciate the songs now, they are not the “listen once and love it” kind of songs.
La Cha Ta and Chu are not the songs that can fully display F(x)’s talent, even with Luna’s vocal powers in Nu Abo, the song still appears hard to appreciate. Singers have to ensure that their songs are good; songs that show off vocal prowess but not addictive are hard to attract listeners.
It would be also good to let Fx members participate in more variety shows. But the idea of Shinee and Fx participating in variety shows is still far away. Since Fx’s debut till March in 2010, Fx has not joined any formal variety show. Some members appeared on Dream Team, several appearances on Star King, before joining variety shows formally from May last year.
Until now, the only person that has appeared as a fixed cast member in a long-running variety show is Victoria, after joining Invincible Youth. Such variety shows allow viewers and others to know more about idols, but Fx does not have this sort of experience.
In the beginning, I thought Fx will use Krystal as its “face” to appear on programs. Due to circumstances, it was changed to Victoria. But of course, seeing that SM is such a huge company, it can afford to be like this, but knowing that SM is not doing anything to help Fx and Shinee is disappointing.
